Floyds Knobs is a relatively new school that was created from the consolidation of the Lafayette Elementary School and the St. Mary’s of the Knobs Elementary School at the completion of a major project in 1996 to the existing Lafayette School building. The school was originally built in 1957.

The 1996 project added a large two-story classroom wing with a new administrative area, gymnasium and library/media center. The existing building was totally renovated to provide modern classrooms completely cabled for computers and telephones.  A new entrance drive was added from Scottsville Road and new playground areas were developed for the new classroom wing.  A complete new heating, air conditioning and temperature control system was also installed.
